Though I already had an unopened bottle of this at home, I went ahead and had a small taste when I had access to it on draft.  Since Fruit Beers are not normally my thing, I admit that I was drawn to this because I enjoy saying the name.  Guilty on that charge.  Also, am I the only one who did not know that there were peaches grown in Colorado?

Millions of peaches . . .

Brewery: Terrapin Beer Company (Athens, GA)

Name: Peaotch (Midnight Project Brew Four)

Style: Fruit Beer

ABV: 7.20% (on bottle)

Tasting Notes: Stored in the fridge before serving in a flute.  Collaboration with Left Hand Brewing brewed with Georgia and Colorado peaches.

Aroma: Light fruity aroma (peaches of course) with some floral notes and a bit of sweetness.  Pretty light overall, but no doubt that the peaches are there. – 7/12

Appearance: Pale orange honey-like color.  One finger off-white head that is thin, fades pretty quickly, and leaves slight legs on the glass.  Clear with small rising bubbles visible. – 2/3

Flavor: Fairly prominent peach flavor up front with a touch of floral after that.  Mild bitterness from middle to finish.  A touch of sweetness in there to offset the bitterness.  Finishes fairly smoothly with a little of everything lingering, including some light bitterness with some of the floral/peach flavor. – 11/20

Mouthfeel: Light body with a moderate to high level of carbonation that is close to champagne-like.  Some crispness, but also relatively smooth. – 3.5/5

Overall Impressions: Going in I was not expecting to like a peach flavor beer all that much, but it is pretty good.  With that, I do not want to drink all that much of it because the flavor does start to get old on the palate.  Does not taste at all like a 7.2% ABV beer – maybe more like 5 to 6%.  Better when more cold as it gets a bit of sharpness when it warms some. – 6.5/10

Overall: B- (30/50)

As it often happens, this is another beer that I first tried a sample of on draft.  It was quite a while ago now that I tried it and I seem to remember not really loving it at the time.  None of that was enough to stop me from giving it an official try at home and I am glad that I did.

At first I had the overall at 7 out of 10, then changed it to 6.5, but I suppose it does not really matter since the final letter grade is the same either way.

Leading into what will be a very enjoyable weekend . . .

Brewery: Terrapin Beer Company (Athens, GA)

Name: Indiana Krunkles (Side Project Volume 15)

Style: Specialty Beer (or a German Style Wheat IPA as it’s described on the bottle)

ABV: 7.30% (on bottle)

Tasting Notes: Stored in the fridge before serving in a pint glass.  22oz. bottle grabbed at Whole Foods some time back.

Aroma: Great citrusy, somewhat spicy hop aroma with a slight sweetness and a yeasty character.  A bit of a floral note in there as well.  Quite nice overall. – 9/12

Appearance: Light golden orange in color.  One finger off-white head that is thick and frothy with good retention and leaving some trail.  Clear with lots of rising bubbles visible. – 2.5/3

Flavor: Citrus pith-like hop quality with that kind of bitterness and some underlying sweetness that is somewhat mead-like.  A fruity banana-esque character trying to come through.  The combination of flavors seem to come together nicely.  Finishes a little dry with some nicely lingering hop flavors. – 13.5/20

Mouthfeel: Medium body (or so) with a moderate level of carbonation.  It has a creaminess to it and also maybe a bit of warmth there. – 4/5

Overall Impressions: Perhaps the spiciness in the aroma is coming from the yeast.  Overall a strange or at least unfamiliar combination of flavors (not a bad thing).  Some warmth seems to be there despite a modest ABV.  The first few sips were pretty dominantly bitter but it became much more balanced after a few more.  An interesting combination of styles that has characteristics of each (Hefeweizen and IPA).  – 6.5/10

Overall: B (35.5/50)

Since I chose not to use any sort of filter in putting together the news for today, I will try to be brief when introducing each piece.  Thank you (again) to The Wife for tossing me a story and on with the show we go . . .
