Beginning With An End

It has felt pretty good this last week and a half to take a break from posting here and honestly I do not know what my posting schedule will be going forward. There is a very good reason for that uncertainty on my part.

Today I will work my final shift at Redlight Redlight. When I left my architecture office job almost 2.5 years ago now I felt pretty good about it because I did not love what I did. I very much liked the people I worked with (for the most part), but the job was killing me on the inside. Leaving Redlight and turning my keys in tonight will be a bummer in that moment because I not only like the people I work with, but I have enjoyed the job (for the most part) over the last 1.5 years or so.

It was certainly physically demanding, but it was also a lot of fun. I met so many great people and have made some new friends along the way that I am very grateful for. For many reasons I owe Brent and Teege a lot for taking a chance on me when they first hired me and I think they are glad that they took that chance.

With all of that said, today is also very exciting because after my shift is over I will be able to turn my mind to my new job as the Central Florida Marketing Representative for Cigar City Brewing ! I am extremely grateful for the opportunity and I would be stupid not to admit that my experience at Redlight Redlight had a lot to do with me getting it. I am really anxious to get started.

So now that I have announced my new job that should explain a little bit of my uncertainty about my posting schedule going forward. Until I get going I am not exactly sure of what my day to day schedule will be. On top of that I want to be appropriate with what I write about here. For example, since I don’t want to be reviewing Cigar City beers, I am not sure how much I want to be reviewing any other beers. Maybe I will just go toward posting less frequently and do more educational entries. Until I get going with my new job and figure that out you will probably not hear much from me in this forum.

For now I am going to enjoy pouring my last few pints tonight and then will very much enjoy a long weekend.

It was a good amount of fun reading through these stories today as they reference places from all over the country and even a bit from far, far away. Thanks to The Mother-in-law again for passing along some good stuff.

Definitely all over the map today . . .

Last week there was the prospect of taking my dog to a pub with me (which is something I would consider) and now if I go to Japan it seems I can go hang out with a bunch of cats. That concept is not as appealing.
There is little chance that I will even be remotely near San Diego in May, but I will be looking forward to hearing how good the keynote address was.
This book is of particular interest to me because I very much want to take a (long) drive up to the Asheville area to experience the great beer culture there.
My limited understanding of the beer scene in Mississippi is that Lazy Magnolia is really the only craft show in town, but it seems that will soon be changing.
Since (as mentioned above) I will not be anywhere near California soon the upcoming beer weeks and festivals are not as interesting to me as the concept of declaring a statewide beer month.
My own brewing efforts are few and far between at this point, but it is very cool to be able to instantly see a clone recipe of the beer in your hand.
There is a ton of great beer label art out there and some that has actually persuaded me to pick up a bottle for the first time. I would not have thought of a few of these as being near the top, but a cool slideshow nonetheless.
Of course making it easier for breweries to establish tasting rooms on premise is great, but did you say more small batch distilleries?!
I am surprising myself with how much I am paying attention to the changing laws that are helping craft beer in a state where I have never been
How many guesses would it take for you to come up with the name of the largest American brewing company?
Just more proof that the craft beer in cans movement is gaining momentum.
As I constantly read about the good beer spots in America it is great to have something highlighting how good the scene is (essentially) just down the road from me.
One tap room is a very good idea, but having two tap rooms from separate breweries under the same roof is a fantastic concept.

Though we were able to get our Christmas packages mailed out to family and friends on Monday it really just hit me yesterday that Christmas is actually next Sunday. Of course that means that the beginning of 2012 is closer than I thought as well. Anyway, thanks to The Mother-in-law and my friend Gerard for passing along some good stuff this week.

Positive news all around . . .

It is certainly not because I miss the falling white stuff, but there are brief moments like when I read this where the thought of living back in CNY doesn’t see so bad. I guess I can just try to visit more often.
I simply cannot keep track of all of the beer bars opening in the (relative) vicinity of where I live and I certainly do not get out enough to visit them all.
I am pretty sure that I have never had a Haitian beer.
You know that you are buying a few of those gift packs with glassware anyway, so why not have a little of that money do some good?
Another way to drink for a good cause if you find yourself in the LA area.
This is (part 2 of) an interesting read that explores/explains the hold that Bud has on the United States. I only wish that I had come up with the line “insipid dishwater of a beer.”
If you make enough fourth quarter comebacks in the NFL it is only a matter of time before you inspire the creation of a new beer.
With so many new breweries opening or existing ones expanding it does make sense to at least think about a saturation point. As long as we are thinking about those expansions I should include a few updates . . .

There is no beer in them yet, but the sight of the shiny green cans on the line do make me look forward to when that day finally comes.
