I am quite pleased with the collection of stories today since they cover many different topics.  Then again, the last one also makes me even more excited to get back to Baltimore in a few months to warm up a barstool at Max’s.  On with  the show . . . .

  • I like to think that there is so much beer out there now that there has to be at least one to satisfy everyone’s tastes, but apparently I am missing something.
  • Maybe this is not the biggest beer news this week . . . unless you live in that town.
  • It takes stories like this one to remind me how fortunate I am to be here and have access to the large amount of good beer in this area.  Apparently many are not as lucky.
  • I have often said that I will not wait in line for much of anything and this only reminds me of that.  Though it is awesome that there is this much excitement about craft beer, the madness often gets out of hand.  I also think that not sucking it up and having a different beer after waiting in line that long is bizarre.
  • After again mentioning my hatred for lines, this beer might be worth a trip to Boulder.  Then again there is quite a lot of beery awesomeness there beyond just Avery.
  • Though I do not know exactly what the craft beer movement is like in the UK, I very much enjoyed one of the BrewDog guys taking a shot at one of the big boys of beer in the world.  Keep on speaking the truth James!
  • Who knew that an unintentionally released tweet would turn out to benefit both parties involved?  As a bonus related story, here is an opportunity to catch up with what Sam and DFH has been up to (if you did not know already).
  • Being in Baltimore during this would be quite excellent, but I will just settle for what is available at Max’s when I am up there in a few months.  Belgian Beer Festival or not, I will feel quite at home there.

If I had not already used my quota of the word “random” for my “Random Thought Sundays” it sure would have been used to describe the news post for today.  A thank you goes out to The Wife and The Architect known as Ken for throwing a few stories my way this week.

Now on to the news . . .

  • Unfortunately there are no videos to accompany this one.  Part of me really wanted to see how one tells if an owl is drunk or not.
  • This one both gives me some Shmaltz brews to look forward to this year (and beyond) and also reminds me that I need to finish reading Jeremy’s book.
  • Though this is mostly about the food and concepts behind a new restaurant in Chicago, it also makes mention of some specially brewed beers in the works.  Just another reason to get back to Chicago one of these days.
  • Nothing really to say here other than this new beer sounds really really awful to me.
  • Those of you that read my ramblings consistently know of my distain for pretty much all beer commercials, so I was happy to read that someone else is not in love with them either.
  • I am now very much looking forward to checking out this movie later this year at least in part because of the breweries that are to be featured.
  • There was mention on the site a while back of some very, very old yeast possibly being used to brew beer and now that has apparently happened.  I am glad that they chose beer over bread in this case.
  • Finishing up with some (semi) local love.  The only problem that I can possibly see with having 25 taps filled with Cigar City beers is choosing which beer to start with.

The method of assembling the weekly beer news is one step away from being perfect.  This week I had both the benefit of having skipped last week (leaving me with more to choose from) and also not having to actually search for the news.  The Wife, Seattle Jeff, and my official Midwestern Beer Correspondent Erin gave me everything that I would need for a good mix of news.  Perfection would be if I could only get one of them to actually write the post for me.  I cannot be greedy though.

For this week . . .

  • In an effort to bring you all of the hard hitting beer news and research, I can finally share the reasoning behind man’s love of beer.  Seems like rock solid facts to me!
  • I am probably the wrong person to react to a new beer ad campaign (see example here), but this one is interesting since it strays completely from the often used “everyman” type approach to beer advertising.
  • If you combine the fact that spent grain is already being used to feed livestock (among many other things) with this new application in the UK, there is no reason not to up the production of beer significantly.
  • Now I know for sure not to question what The Wife’s impressions of a beer are.  I do know that I struggle with aromas more than anything when reviewing a beer, so after reading this I should just have her do all of my reviews.  Actually the only surprise in this article to me is that there is a mild fruit flavor in Coors Light.  Of course I haven’t exactly evaluated it, so perhaps I need to give it a try sometime (though not high on my list of things to do).
  • There is a unique kind of happy hour in Boulder.  This is really another example of how beer can bring people together to interact and share their ideas and talents.  Apparently good craft beer can help people learn as well!
