Initially I started off with just a few links today and then things got a little out of hand.  After happily including some input from The Mother-in-law I also went on to include more and more and more stories until finally making myself stop.  That is why I am well into double digits for the number of news items this week.

Let’s get to it . . .

It occurred to me just now while putting together this post that I probably need to throw together a few beer goals for 2012.  They may overlap a bit with my overall goals for the next year, but I have to sit down and think about that.  Perhaps I will share a top five (or so) on Monday next week.

The last news post of the year . . .

There will come no time when I fault Seattle Jeff for moving to the Pacific Northwest (since I love it there too).  With that said, there will probably never be a time when I review a beer from the Boulder area where I don’t mention that I wish he still lived there so I had a better excuse to visit Colorado.  The upside of course is that I have a good excuse to travel to Seattle whenever possible.

Now for the second review of this week . . .

Brewery: Avery Brewing Company (Boulder, CO)

Name: India Pale Ale

Style: American IPA

ABV: 6.50% (on bottle)

Tasting Notes: Stored in the fridge and pulled early to warm very slightly before serving in a pint glass.

Aroma: A floral, citrusy hop aroma with maybe a bit of spice that hovers over a bit of subtle underlying sweetness. – 8/12

Appearance: Golden copper in color (kind of honey-like).  Two finger off-white head that is thick with excellent retention and leaving a heavy trail.  Quite clear (though with a slight chill haze) with rising bubbles visible. – 3/3

Flavor: A nice punch of hoppy bitterness up front with some malty sweetness that comes through right after that.  Floral hop character present then finishes pretty dry (which works nicely) with some lingering floral notes and bitterness.  – 15/20

Mouthfeel: Medium(ish) body with a moderate (or higher) level of carbonation.  Creamy on the palate despite the prominent bitterness.  – 4/5

Overall Impressions: Really addictive as the bitterness grows on the palate and I am left wanting the next sip as a result (and the next and the next).  Nicer flavor when not super cold directly from the fridge.  The balance definitely tips to the bitter side, but very good for an IPA like that.  Maybe not my absolute favorite, but I could drink all afternoon/day. – 7/10

Overall: Very Good – 37/50
