For me there is no such thing as a bad beer, but there are certainly some that are much better than others.  The only way that I can determine what I think the better ones are is to try them all.  However, there are times where I will fall back on familiar names and flavors.  This comes to mind this morning as I prepare to wear the colors at head out to the bar to take in the Sunday NFL games.

Today I already know what beer I will be drinking as I have spent many a Sunday afternoon at this place.  I usually have a method to my selection that goes something like this:

  1. Take a look at the draft list.  Many times there is something there that will make it unnecessary for me to see what the bottle selection is.
  2. If the first step doesn’t leave me with my choice, take a look at the bottle list for a backup plan.
  3. Go back to the draft list.  Probably nine times out of ten (at least eight) I will settle on one from the draft list unless something really attractive is available in a bottle.  I can’t get draft beer at home (maybe some day).

That doesn’t explain how I narrow my choices by style, geography, etc, but that is something I am trying to put my finger on to share for another day.  Maybe after I try a few hundred more beers I will just have a top ten (or so) list of beers that will minimize this type of decision making process?

Some people lean toward the bottled beers, but I lean strongly to what is available on draft.  What side are you on?

  1. I definitely lean heavy on the draft side of this argument as well…

  2. The decision is completely situational. Is it $1 Blue Light bottles night? Am I looking to have a few, or get completely in the bag? Am I at a restaurant where I will drink a bottled beer out of a glass?

I guess what I’m saying is…I don’t lean. I call my plays after seeing what the defense is giving me.
