So many random thoughts for just one day a week!

There are a few more hours of football to (perhaps) help shake off the post vacation funk that we are in.  Neither The Wife nor I have felt very well today, but the lazy Sunday has gradually cleared some of the cobwebs and we should be fine to (begrudgingly) resume our professions tomorrow.

In between pondering the possibilities of product placements in New Zealand and trying to decide what type of business we would start together (both of which will continue), the family sucked it up and did some hard research on drinking establishments one evening.  Everyone brings different feelings as to what they would want incorporated into their ultimate hangout.  We found ourselves poking around the bar we were sitting at explaining what we would keep and what we would change for the better.

Later that week The Wife and I found a space for lease in town that had some potential for a good pub.  It certainly needed some work, but location was good and the storefront had a good feel to it.  If you get to it before we do, you will have The Wife to answer to, so it is best to just keep it there for us.

Future Pub?

What I look for in a good pub or drinking hangout has certainly changed a great deal in the last half dozen years or so.  By keeping track of what I enjoy and dislike about places we visit, I should be able to come of with the components of what my perfect place would be.

What do you look for in a good watering hole?

  1. If you’re itching to open a bar…the once proud McGregors (now named Kelly Coles) is empty again. I would place many of its features on the top of my list of great bar amenities…can’t understand why it keeps going under.

    - 70+ beers on tap, reasonably priced
    - lots of Outdoor seating on a busy intersection,
    - walking distance to two major public gathering places, both with outdoor water features and lots of free concerts during the summer/fall
    - Great dart board setup
    - good pub food
    - Plenty of TVs

Good staff…while not a physical feature..can not be overlooked.

    • Not again!! There has to be a curse on that building . . . there is no other reason for it not to hold down a good bar. Perhaps I would consider it as my pub location, but it is probably a bad idea to take on that kind of bad karma.
