Some weeks deciding which tidbits of beer news to pass along is easy and some weeks are a bit more difficult.  This is one of the latter and not because there was too much to choose from either.  There was not a lot that caught my eye this week as I was hoping for some good stories of spring seasonals and the like.  As always there are stories out there, but I usually realize instantly if I want to share something and not much of that happened this week.

Don’t take that as complaining on my part as I have tons of other material that I need to get reading that will keep me busy.  Even with that, here are a few points of interest and a little informal poll at the bottom . . .

  • There are a handful of craft beer folks/breweries nominated this year for James Beard honors, so here is a short interview with Brooklyn Brewery’s Garrett Oliver regarding his nomination (and a few other things).
  • Here is a shout out to my Midwestern beer news correspondent Erin, who will have to somehow convince me that I should give this beer a fair chance.  However it is in a can now, which helps it chances considerably for hot weather consumption by me.
  • If you enjoy good beer and are at least somewhat jealous of talented artists (painters in this case), this video is a good combination of the two.  Maybe I can get them to do something with the side of my garage?
  • Have you ever wanted a craft beer that was brewed with parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme?  Nope, me either, but you will now have your chance on three separate occasions this year thanks to Stone, Victory, and Dogfish Head.
  • I always look out for locally brewed beers in my travels, but I did not have much time to do so as we drove through Idaho recently on our way to Seattle.  Had our schedule been a bit more relaxed it seems that we would have found some quality brews to enjoy along the way.  Maybe Boise deserves a return visit?

Just another reason to keep smiling. (via http://news.draftmag.com/)

As a closing remark, in years past I have generally said that spring was my least favorite season overall for craft beer seasonals.  Perhaps this year I will do some more serious evaluation of that stance, but in the meantime I am wondering what your favorite or least favorite season for beer is?

Cheers!

  1. You have cousins-in-law living in Boise (my sister Chris’ daughters, Lindsay and Brooke), and my sister Chris is moving from Las Vegas soon to Boise.

  2. I have to say we have been enjoying the Sam Adams Noble Pils that our local watering hole has on draft for Spring. We were disappointed at first that it replaced the Winter Lager that was on draft which was our Wintertime fav, but on a nice Spring Day it is certainly a tasty selection. I did here on the radio they are having $2 happy hour pints at Sackets Harbor Brewing Company starting this week, so I will definitely be finding a “dd” and heading out there soon. Not sure if they have a seasonal beer for Spring. I will be sure to send you the full report if they do.

    • You should be happy that the winter beers are gone since that means you might actually not see the snow come back anymore this year! Definitely let me know what they are offering in Sackets . . . I need to know if I should hop on the next plane or not.
