In honor of today being the day that the Heisman Trophy will be awarded, I have simply compiled a few of the “Best” lists from BeerAdvocate and RateBeer to show what all of us serious beer drinkers out there think is the most worthwhile. Just like the Heisman, you may disagree, but with these two sources it is a good place to start your shopping list!
- BeerAdvocate – Top Beers on Planet Earth
- RateBeer – Best Beers 2009
- RateBeer – Best Beers by Beer Style 2009
- RateBeer – Best Brewers 2009
- RateBeer – Best Beers of the United States 2009
- RateBeer – Best Beer Bars 2009

All of this list reading makes me thirsty!

I was quite upset to not see NYC’s McSorley’s ale house on that list. This is far and away the most memorable beer drinking location/ experience I’ve ever had…and I’ve had a lot of them, and in several countries (US, Canada, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany).
McSorley’s is NYC’s oldest watering hole, and stepping through the door is like traveling back in time. The floor is covered in sawdust, and it’s quite honestly the best beer selection process I’ve ever seen. Light or Dark? They only serve one style of beer (Ale of course) and you can get the light version or the dark version. Don’t ask for anything else, they ‘ain’t got it’
This place is for those serious about Americana…..definitely had the NYC crowd that you won’t find ‘in da club’. Follow the link below, but not until you’ve finished reading Lucas’s blog.
