This one has been in the three-ring binder staring at me for quite some time now and today is the day to cross it off the list. I remember this as the new big thing to drink at the college bars if you wanted to branch out a bit from the standard domestic choices. Though it exists under the umbrella of one of the big boys, it still holds up as a decent example of a witbier. Be sure to have a glass of it when you make your next visit to Golden, Colorado.
Brewery: Blue Moon Brewing Co. (Golden, Colorado)
Name: Blue Moon
Style: Witbier
ABV: 5.4%
Tasting Notes: Stored in the fridge and served in a pilsner glass.
Aroma: Grainy, wheat aroma with a spice/herb background (coriander) and some sweetness.
Appearance: Medium straw color. Three finger (plus), cream color head that slowly dissipates with some trail. Somewhat cloudy (translucent) with some visible rising bubbles.
Flavor: Slight sweetness with a light orange/fruity note. Some spice in background. Slight dryness at finish, though not lingering.
Mouthfeel: Medium to light body with fairly high carbonation. Light creaminess on palate.
Overall Impressions: Not a ton of flavor (at least without the added orange slice). Smooth and refreshing, making for a decent beer for warm weather drinking.
Grade: B

Blue Moon Brewing Co. - Blue Moon

Did Blue Moon sell out to a bigger brewery, Coors I think? Must be Budweiser is trying to jump on this bandwagon as well with the Bud Light Golden Wheat. Have you ever tried Blue Moon Harvest Moon Pumpkin Ale?
Yes sir . . . if you go to the brewery in Colorado you can sample Blue Moon and the banquet beer at the same time. I have not had the BM Pumpkin Ale this year, but I do remember their seasonals being pretty good. I should get to it before the fall beers are gone for the year.
